General Introduction

Boundaries

 

In the East the councils bordered by Meru district council, In the West bordered by Monduli district council, In the North bordered by Longido district council, In the South bordered by Simanjiro district council. Either this council surrounds Arusha Municipal council.

LEGAL STATUS

Arusha District Council is Local Government Authority established under Local Government (District Authorities) Act Cap 287 R.E 2002. As a Local Government Authority it is body corporate and have perpetual succession. Capable of entering into contract in its corporate name, holding and purchasing or acquiring in any other way and as posing of any movable or immovable property.

 

General functions

Section 113 of Local Government (District Authorities) Act provides General functions of Local Government authority which:-

To maintain and facilitate the maintenance of peace order and good governance within its area jurisdiction.

To promote the social welfare and economic well being of all person within its area of jurisdiction.

Subject to the national policy and plans for rural and urban development, to further the social and economic development of its area of jurisdiction.

Vision of the council

The Arusha District Council would like to see the whole community of Arusha is well educated with good livelihood, better and sustainable social services, better infrastructure and lead by principles of good governance by the year 2025

Mission statement

The Arusha District Council in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is committed to facilitate delivery of sustainable good services by considering priorities set by stakeholders through use of available /expected resources by the year 2025.
